Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Card & Pencil collects when a golf society uses the service, why it is collected, and what control you have over it. It applies to this website and to the Card & Pencil app at app.cardandpencil.co.uk.

What we collect

Account details you give us when you create or join a society: your name, your email address and your society handicap. Day-to-day golf data: the tee sheet, the draw, the scores entered hole by hole, side game entries and the settle-up amounts recorded by your organiser. Basic technical data: browser type, device type, approximate region and anonymous usage statistics used to keep the service working.

We do not collect payment card details on this website, and we do not ask for special category data such as health information.

How we use it

To create and run society days — the draw, live scoring, leaderboards, side games and the settle-up ledger; to identify you to the other members of your society; to email organisers about their society and about changes to the service; and to diagnose faults and improve reliability. Our lawful bases are performance of a contract with you and our legitimate interest in running a secure, working service.

Sharing

Your name, handicap and scores are visible to other members of the societies you belong to — that is the point of a shared card. Beyond that, we share data only with the suppliers that host and operate the service on our behalf (hosting, database, email delivery and error monitoring), who process it under contract and only on our instructions. We do not sell personal data or share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

Society and scoring records are kept for as long as the society uses Card & Pencil, so that the order of merit and past days stay intact. If you close your account we remove your personal details; historic scores may remain in the society's records in a form that no longer identifies you.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask for it in a portable format. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This marketing site uses only the cookies and local storage needed to serve the pages. The app uses a sign-in cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies.
