Terms of use

Last updated: 11 August 2026

These terms govern the use of Card & Pencil by golf societies, their organisers and their members. By creating a society or joining one with a join code, you accept them.

Using Card & Pencil

Anyone aged 16 or over may create a society. The person who creates it is its organiser and is responsible for the day's setup, the draw, and for the accuracy of the scores and settle-up figures recorded. Members are responsible for entering their own scores honestly and for the conduct of their account. You may not use the service to harass other members, to upload unlawful content, or to attempt to access societies you have not been invited to.

Accounts

Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for activity on your account. Any admin of a society can promote another member to admin, so a society continues if the organiser steps down. You can close your account at any time by emailing us, and we can suspend an account that breaches these terms.

Scores, handicaps and money

Card & Pencil keeps a society handicap for your own competitions. It is not an official WHS record and does not replace the handicap held by your home club. The settle-up ledger is a record of what your society has agreed between yourselves — we are not a party to those debts, we do not hold or transfer money, and we do not settle disputes between members.

Availability

We aim to keep the service available throughout your golf day, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, change features, or withdraw parts of the service, and we will give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can.

Liability

The service is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost scores caused by a device or network failure, or for decisions your society makes based on the figures shown. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the date above shows the current version, and continued use after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
