How Stableford scoring works
Stableford scores each hole on its own. Work out your net score — gross strokes minus the shots you receive on that hole — then compare it to par: two over net par or worse is 0, one over is 1, net par is 2, net birdie is 3, net eagle 4 and net albatross 5. Because a blow-up hole costs you two points rather than eight strokes, it is the fairest format for a society field.
Shots received
Your playing handicap is allocated by stroke index. A handicap of 12 gives you a shot on the twelve holes with stroke index 1 to 12. Above 18 you get a second shot on the lowest stroke index holes, and so on.
What counts as a good score
36 points means you played to your handicap. Most society days are won somewhere between 38 and 42 points.
